Science Program Consultation and Support

The Development Department can provide support for science education reform and improvement efforts, including:

  • Explanations of the three dimensions presented by A Framework for K-12 Science Education: Practices, Cross Cutting Concepts, and Core Ideas
  • Exploration of the structure and implications of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS)
  • Comparing the NGSS Practices with Inquiry
  • School and district level science / STEM curriculum development and alignment
  • Selection of appropriate instructional materials and equipment
  • Management and refurbishment of kit based programs through the Eastern Connecticut Science Resource Collaborative
  • Developing chemical hygiene plans and identifying safety issues
  • Instructional coaching in science
  • STEM related grant writing
  • Professional development in science pedagogy, content, and assessment; and related to specific programs:
           * Engineering is Elementary
           * Growing Science Inquiry
           * Elementary and Middle School Science Modules (FOSS, STC)
           * Curriculum Embedded Tasks
           * Science and Literacy: A Natural Fit
  • Evaluation/monitoring of district/school science program, including classroom observation, curriculum audit, materials audit, system-planning
  • StarLab, portable planetarium presentations
